Background

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) is partnering with the World Bank under the current phase of the Africa Centres of Excellence (ACE) Impact III Programme to promote coastal resilience within the West and Central African sub-regions. By the establishment of the Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR) at the Centre for Coastal Management, UCC seeks to support the development of technical and scientific capacity of young African professionals to advance integrated solutions in addressing coastal degradation through short- to long-term professional and academic training programmes. The primary focus of the ACECoR is capacity building for the advancement of sustainable use and management of marine and coastal assets in the partner countries. This is expected to be achieved in collaboration with academia, research institutions and industry, through local and international partnerships.

ACECoR Short Courses

Under the Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR) programme, the Centre for Coastal Management (CCM) at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana, is organizing short courses to strengthen the capacity of government institutions and professionals who are dealing with myriad challenges in coastal areas of Africa with a focus on West and Central Africa. The short courses have been carefully thought out and structured to equip coastal managers with the fundamentals as well as in-depth knowledge for a more integrated approach in the planning and execution of coastal programmes for sustainable development and management of coastal areas.

Interested candidates are invited to apply for any of the five (5) courses currently being run at the Centre. All applications are to be submitted online at the Centre’s website at least two-weeks before commencement of the course.

Course fees for regular stream courses

The fee for each short course is as follows:

Local Ghanaian participants

Non-residential (Package 1): GHS 850.00 (Includes tuition and all training materials)

Non-residential (Package 2): GHS 1,175.00 (Includes tuition and all training materials and meals – lunch and snacks)

Residential: GHS 1,775.00 (Includes tuition and all training materials, accommodation and meals – lunch and snacks)

International participants

US $ 1,000.00 (includes airport pick up, accommodation, tuition, training materials, lunch, and snack breaks)

Please note that the fee does not include visa fees, ground transport (except airport pick up), airfare, travel insurance, or food/lodging before or after the training dates. For local Ghanaian participants, travel to and from Cape Coast is the responsibility of the participant.

Course fees for online stream courses

A subsidised fee of US $ 100.00 is charged for online courses. All applicants will be required to pay this fee online using the online payment sytem.

Sponsorship

The Centre will offer limited funding support for personnel from the following government agencies for the 2020 batch of Geographic Information Systems short courses: Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Fisheries Commission, Marine Police and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other relevant state institutions, NGOs and private partners.

Important note: Females and youth from these institutions are particularly encouraged to apply.
