In line with the mandate and objective of the Directorate of University Health Services (DUHS) to intensify and expand coverage of public health activities within the University Community, a refresher training programme was conducted at the Directorate's Conference room for Coordinators/Infirmary In-Charges from the various University Halls/Hostels. The Directorate of Finance started the Deployment of the New Accounting System (Topnik Accounting) for the Directorate to all the related accounting units of the University. The deployment started on Wednesday 3rd February, 2016.
In the first semester of every academic year, the Faculty organises a ROLL CALL ceremony aimed at inducting first year students. It is a gathering Faculty, students and parents and family members of students and some invited guests. Justices of Superior Courts are invited to swear in the students and also deliver keynote addresses. They also use the occation to admonish students of code of ethics and behaviour of the legal profession and also as law students of the Faculty of Law of the University of Cape Coast.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, has inspected progress of work at the College of Distance Education (CoDE) Training Resource Centre at Agona Nyakrom in the Central Region. The Training Resource Centre has 200 room accommodation including 16 suites, auditoriums, seminar rooms and other facilities.
The Faculty of Law, University of Cape Coast organizes an annual event know as the the JURISTS' CONFAB. It is a meeting of Judges, Legal Practitioners, Law Teachers and Law Students which is convened to reflect on the current state of the law in Ghana and outside. The confab affords students the opportunity to meet, interact and learn from those those they as to be while the judges, legal practitioners, and law teachers, who come from various faculties of law nationwide, also share their experiences and expertise with students of law. This is how some members of DFAS spent their holiday last Monday. It was an amazing sight at a coastal community near Accra, where oyster fishing is a major livelihood option. Development Action Association (DAA), USAID/GHANA Sustainable Fisheries Management Project (SFMP) and the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (DFAS) interacted with women who are actively involved in the oyster business, harvesting the West African mangrove oyster from oyster beds in the Sakoma lagoon. The visit was an eye opener to many opportunities for research and industry.
The Faculty of Law of University of Cape Coast on Friday 23rd September, 2016 graduated its first batch of Law students. All the students were awarded the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree. The faculty graduated all the 49 students who enrolled as the first batch with eight (8) making first class honours, Twenty-one (21) making second class upper category, 15 making second class lower division, four students made a third class and one student making a pass. The pioneer batch also made tremendous success with about 50% of the total student body making it to the Ghana Law School.
