The Confucius Institute (CI)at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has held the maiden Chinese Bridge Competition for high school students.
The students showcased their Chinese language skills and understanding of Chinese culture through speeches, singing, dancing, and cultural performances.
The annual language proficiency and cultural contest is an international event opened to non-Chinese college students to arouse their enthusiasm for learning Chinese and to strengthen the world's understanding of the Chinese language and culture.
This year's competition, which marks the maiden held by the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast, featured students from three different high schools, namely, West End International School, University Junior High School and University Practice Senior High School.

Prof. Ou Yamei, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at UCC, expressed appreciation for the strong cultural and educational collaboration and exchanges between China and Ghana and stressed that the Confucius Institute would continue to play a key role in promoting youth exchanges between the two countries.
She was optimistic that the increasing number of Ghanaian students learning the Chinese language would further consolidate gains made in other areas such as bilateral and trade cooperation.
Prof. Yamei said the competition was a great opportunity to showcase the knowledge of Ghanaian and Chinese culture which she said promotes mutual understanding and friendship.
The Ghana Director of the CI-UCC, Prof. Emmanuel Amo Ofori, said China's higher educational system had long been celebrated for its unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation and research.
He lauded China for positioning itself as a global leader in higher education.
