Cape Coast, October 13, 2020: Management of the University of Cape Coast has learnt with dismay a news report alleging a robbery attack on students at the University Campus. The false report apparently emanated from a social media post accompanied by a video that has since been trending.

The facts of the case are that about 12 midnight on 12th October, 2020, the UCC security patrol team led by Mr. Gershon Serwornu received a call of an alleged robbery attack on students at the S.K. Agyepong Lecture Theatre. The team responded and moved to the purported scene of the attack. Upon their arrival, they found the place locked. The security man on duty was at post and when questioned he did not appear to know anything about the attack.

The patrol team was still with him when they heard shouts from the direction of the C.A. Ackah Lecture Theatre (CAALT) about 200 metres from their location. They quickly moved there and were told by some students that they heard shouts of armed robbery attack and took to their heels.
The Police were invited and they responded. No robbers were found at the scene and no weapons were retrieved. No casualties were recorded. From the above it appears the whole thing might have been a prank.

We take this opportunity to assure all and sundry that there has not been any robbery attack on UCC Campus and that life is normal. We wish to assure parents that the safety and security of students and staff is paramount to Management and that we will continue to provide conducive and serene environment for academic work at all times.
We would also like to warn students to desist from such acts of mischief and that severe disciplinary action would be taken against offenders.
