The Faculty of Social Sciences has honoured students with outstanding academic records at the 2018 Dean’s Award.
Students in levels 200, 300 and 400 who fall within First Class category were presented with certificates and other prizes.
Some students from the Department of Geography and Regional Planning who are members of “YouthMappers”, UCC Chapter were also awarded for their outstanding performance in both local and international competitions.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Dean, Faculty of Social sciences, Prof. Francis E. Amuquandoh, said the students deserved to be given the needed recognition for their exceptional academic performances. He noted that it has always been the Faculty’s interest to “train and broaden the horizon of our young ones for a nation building, therefore, students should put up good behaviour in all their endeavours”. He congratulated the awardees for their excellence and encouraged other students to work hard for academic success.
In his address at the function, the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof. J. B. Afful, urged the students to put in more efforts in their academic work. He noted that the ceremony has been instituted to promote and celebrate academic excellence, therefore, students must inculcate the habit of due diligence in their academic responsibilities. He added that “students should not only be interested in aptitudes but attitude, in order to foster a good societal change in our country, Ghana.”
As part of the ceremony there was a consultative forum, where the students interacted with lecturers and Management of the Faculty on issues affecting their academic work and general welfare
Heads of Department (HODs) present took turns to advise the students to be serious about their studies and responsible for their actions.
