The Head of the Department of Psychological Medicine and Mental Health of the School of Medical Sciences (SMS), Dr. Michael Tetteh Anim, has launched a book on Sickle Cell.

The book titled “Psychology of the Sickle Cell Individual: Biopsychosocial- Spiritual Factors in Health and Disease” covers the clinical, psychological, and spiritual function of an individual who lives with sickle cell. It looks at the negative and the positive influence sickle cell disorder has on the mental, emotional and behavioral functions of the Sickle cell individual. It also talks about how the sickle cell individual uses his/her psychology to influence the sickle cell.  

Dr. Anim stated that the book was written with the average person in mind. He said the language, was simple for everyone’s reading. He urged the general public to get copies of the book in order to help those living with the disease.

Launching the book, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, stated that he would ensure that copies of the book and other publications by the author were made available at the University library for wide readership.

The first ten copies of the books were auctioned for GH¢500.00 each.

Present at the launch were Mr. John Kofi Nyan, the Dean SMS, Prof. Ivy Adwoa Ekem, the President of National Sickle Cell, Prof. Awa Mensah, the Principal of Ola College of Education, Rev. SR. Elizabeth Amoako-Arhen and some chiefs of the Oguaa Traditional Council.
